~HAPPY THANKGIVING EVERYONE~
I had such a wonderful Thanksgiving meal last night. I flew back last night from LA. After my mom picked up my sister and I from the airport, we went to my uncle’s place directly.
感恩節是美國的一大節日, 起源於當初移民來新大陸的早期居民, 為了感謝一年豐碩的收穫, 定在每年十一月第四個禮拜四和家人團聚, 感謝上帝賜給他們美好的豐收. 這個傳統就此流傳下來. 至於感恩節為什麼要吃火雞, ….我也不曉得耶. 大概當時火雞很多的關係吧.
一般公司都會連休星期四星期五兩天, 於是每年感恩節我們連著週末就有四天假期. 許多人都搶著在星期三晚上趕回家裡和家人團聚, 造成機場爆滿, 公路上大塞車的局面. 我就有曾經開了兩個小時才抵達機場的經驗(平時從我家開只需要15分鐘而已). 今年因為太晚訂機票, 我只訂到今天下午的飛機飛回北加州, 沒想到, 機場比平時還少人, 大概所有的人都在昨天晚上就離開了. 讓我可以舒舒服服地搶到前排的座位.
My cousin Virginia was the main chef this year. She spend numerous hours in the kitchen yesterday baking turkey and cooked so many other yummy Thanksgiving food: baked yam, stuffing, butternut squash soup, potato salad, and pumpkin cheesecake. Uncle Lu also cooked so many Chinese dishes. Our table was filled with so many food. We were so full afterward.
The turkey was a great success this year. The meat was very tender and juicy. I have never have such delicious turkey before. Usually turkey tends to be very dry and we usually have so many leftover turkey meat. This year we finished at least half of the 12 lbs. turkey. Not too bad!
我家人每年都會和附近的幾家親戚一起吃飯, 今年輪到我伯父家裡, 我的表妹今年掌廚烤火雞, 烤出來的火雞十分鮮嫩多汁, 吃起來每個人都讚不絕口. 這大概是我吃過最好吃的火雞. 火雞肉很容易烤得乾乾地, 並不是每個人都喜歡吃. 往年都會剩下許多火雞肉沒吃完, 今年的銷路倒是滿不錯地.
表妹及伯父還準備了一大堆食物, 有一般的感恩節食物: 烤地瓜, stuffing, 馬鈴薯泥, 南瓜派等等, 也有一些中式料理:帝王蟹, 炒青菜, 冬瓜湯, 我爸媽也帶了炒米粉. 一大堆食物擺在桌上, 看起來好豐盛!
After the meal, Virginia also baked several pumpkin cheesecake and pumpkin pies. We had chocolate fondue as well. We were so full at the end. Everyone was in a food coma and ready to go to sleep. That was such a wonderful and fulfilling Thanksgiving meal. It was also nice to see my family again.
吃完正餐, 表妹還準備了好幾道點心: 南瓜起司派, 巧克力鍋等等. 我們大家吃到最後都吃得好撐, 拼命摸著肚子喊說吃不下了, 眼皮也都不爭氣地快闔上了. 這大概是我吃過最豐盛的一次感恩節大餐.
