是的! 經過幾個星期不懈的努力爭取, 我終於拿到我想要的新職位啦!

其實正確來說, 這並不算是升職, 而是我被換到另外一個部門做其他的工作. 但這個新職位的工作內容對我來說是全新的一面, 可以學到許多新東西, 挑戰性也高. 而且職位等級也算比較高, 付的薪水也不錯, 才讓我心動不已. 跟那部門的經理交涉半天, 才終於ㄠ到這個職位.

只不過, 當我聽到我被錄取的同時, 新經理給我的薪水並沒有我預期的那麼好, 剛聽到時實在有點失望. 後來竟然還發現原來是我們部門內有另外兩個經理刻意壓低我的薪水, 因為她們不希望我的薪水這麼接近她們的薪水階級.

聽到這個小道消息時, 心中真的感到很震驚. 那兩位經理平時都跟我很好, 我們常常沒事就在那邊哈拉聊天. 怎麼背後會這樣捅我一刀, 心中滿難過的. 怪不得人家說在工作場合很難交到知心的朋友. 一旦遇到攸關私人利益的事情, 人就會變得自私起來.

幸好我的新經理人還滿不錯的, 願意幫我去跟上面重新交涉談條件. 今天終於聽到了好消息, 上級願意再多加$2000上去. 雖然不是很多, 但我已心滿意足了!

不過, 在此同時, 我也聽說我的舊職位將來即將會被改成資深職位(senior level). 我聽了就一肚子火, 我在這邊辛苦工作五年, 從沒有給我提升到資深階級. 我跑去跟上面爭取, 還被說因為我做的工作內容不符合資深階級的工作, 所以沒有核准我的申請. 現在我一離開, 竟然馬上就把我的職位調高? 這是什麼道理嘛!!

我的經理解釋說: “這是新的人事條約, 所有新的職位都將會被調高成資深人員.”

我問經理: “那其他已經在這邊工作的人呢? 也會一起被調高加薪嗎?”

經理苦笑: “恩….並不會. 我們只調高新請的職位階級, 這是新的規定.”

這是什麼道理?? 為何在這邊辛苦工作十幾年的人不被升級, 反倒是新請進來的人一進來就自動跳級. 真不懂學校做事的方式, 很不公平呢!!

好啦! 抱怨歸抱怨, 我還是很高興自己能夠拿到新工作! 只要在這邊熬兩年累積經驗, 必定對我的將來大有幫助!

也在同時, 我收到洛杉磯郡立公立圖書館(LA County Public Library)通知開始實習工作, 這個實習機會我四月中就申請了, 一直到現在才來通知. 公立圖書館跟我現在工作的大學圖書館工作內容相差很多, 如果我能夠累積在公立圖書館的工作經驗, 將來或許也比較容易申請進入公立圖書館做事.

只不過這個實習不是正職工, 一個星期只做10小時而已. 為了不影響我的正職工作, 可能以後星期六也要去上班了.

沒關係, 為了將來, 為了前途, 現在辛苦一點也無所謂! 夢想是要靠自己實現的, 加油加油!!

話說回來, 這兩天大概是天氣驟然變熱的關係, 週三早上起來竟然感到頭暈目眩, 站都站不直, 那天便請了病假, 倒在床上睡了一整天. 隔天有感到好一點, 但是精神還沒有完全恢復, 又請了一天假. 睡了整個早上, 下午才有點體力起床走動. 就連現在都還有點感到昏昏沉沉的. 但想說不能再這樣待在家裡睡大覺, 只好拖著病來上班.

最近天氣變化很多, 明天聽說竟然會開始下雨. 要好好保重自己的身體呀. 要不然要如何應付將來繁重的工作時間呢??

I Got Promoted!!

Yes! After few weeks of waiting, I finally got my promotion!

Actually, this is a new position within our department. I will be dealing with mostly electronic resources materials, something I have never worked with before. This position is at a higher level and with better pay. Of course I had to fight for it.

When I found out I got the job, I was so happy that I almost jump out of my seat. But then, my new manager told me their offer, which quickly brings me down from heaven. What?? The salary they offer is much lower than what I expected. I was utterly disappointed.

Fortunately I have a very nice manager who were willing to re-negotiate my salary for me. I just found out today that the re-negotiation process went through. They added at least $2000 on top. It’s still not a lot, but good enough for me! 

Later I found out there were 2 other managers in my department who tried to keep my salary low, because they were not happy my pay is close to what they’re getting. I was really shocked when I heard about this. I’m pretty close to these two managers and we usually chat together everyday. Why would they do this behind my back? That’s why they say you can never really trust the people you work with. When it comes to personal profit, people tend to become selfish.

Anyway, I’m just happy that I got this new job! It will be challenging and something new to learn. I can’t wait to start this new position!

LA County Public Library also contacted me to start this part-time internship at Culver City Library. I will most likely be working on Saturdays and some evenings on weekday nights. This internship will help me gain experiences working in public library. I’m really looking forward to start this internship.

By the way, I’ve been sick for the past 2 days. It was probably the scorching heat that bring me down. I slept all day on Wednesday and slept all morning yesterday. Finally I was able to get out of bed to do something. Weather has been unpredictable lately. I better watch out for my health or else I won’t be able to cope with such long working hours of 2 jobs.
