During the break, I saw two films. One of them was “The Aviator” starring Leonardo DiCaprio. This movie is about legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes’ life. I knew nothing about Howard Hughes before seeing the movie, other than he contributed a lot in the aerospace industry in the 30’s and 40’s and the Howard Hughes Center near LAX. After the movie, I was deeply touched by his passion for aviation and his inner struggle with compulsive obsession. Leonardo did such a wonderful job portraying this challenging role. While watching the movie, I totally forgot that he is the handsome dude from “Titanic”. I felt like I was watching the real Howard Hughes jumping up and down, trying to build the biggest airplane and locking himself in the room for days, battling with his psychological problems. I have a strong feeling Leo is going to win an Oscar for his brilliant performance this year.
Other supporting actors, such as Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin. John C.Riley, were wonderful as well in this movie. Although the movie is 3 hours long, it only depicts Howard Hughe’s young adulthood to his late 40’s. After checking out his bio online, I felt they could’ve done a lot more to describe what he had done afterwards. The timeline wasn’t exactly correct either. This man did so much in his life that a movie could not describe all of his tales. However, a wonderful film nonetheless. Two thumbs up for a great effort!
