Been sick the last couple of days. Started from Sunday, I have symptoms like sore throat and coughing. Then Monday afternoon, I began to have fever. Temperature went up to 99.5 degrees at one point. Don’t even remember how I drove back home. I only remembered I went to bed right after I got home and slept the whole day yesterday.

Now the fever is gone, but still have sore throat and I kinda lost my voice.

I realized several of my coworkers are sick as well. Several of them took days off and rest at home. I could hear coughing sounds from every cubicle. I guess there is a virus going around.

I remembered I used to want to catch a cold when I was younger so I didn’t have to go to school. As I grew older, I realized the importance of maintaining a healthy body. Being sick really isn’t fun at all.

Jogging 2

Last week I promised myself I need to keep up with my jogging plan. You know what happen yesterday? When I went out to jog yesterday, I ended up…….pulled my muscle……

It’s not even my leg muscle. It’s the muscle between my thigh bone and my hip bone. How did I pull my muscle there? I have absolutely no clue. That area has been hurting for awhile due to improper seating posture. I guess the jog exacerbated the problem.

Now I’m walking with a limp cuz it hurts so bad when I walk. Looks like I have to put my jogging plan on a halt now. urgghhghghgh……

Jogging

Can you believe it? I started jogging yesterday.

Yes. Jogging! Something I haven’t done since high school PE class.

To help to resolve my back pain problem, doctor suggested me to do some aerobic exercise, such as jogging. I thought since I get off work early and the weather has been pretty nice lately, why don’t I start running after work?

So that’s what I did yesterday. I took out my sneaker that’s been sitting in my shoe cabinet for years, went outside and ran around the block for 10 minutes. Even though it was only 10 minutes, but it was a good start for me. My energy level was much better than I thought, at least I wasn’t dying or anything from the 10 minutes run. Maybe I can increase it to 2 laps or even 3 laps next time.

From my previous experience, I tend to forget about my exercise plan after a month. Who knows how long this jogging plan is going to last this time? I’m keeping my fingers crossed and I hope my back pain will go away soon!

Chiropractor & the Most Painful Massage Ever

My back pain problem has been bothering me for more than 6 months now. I finally took my friend’s suggestion and went to a chiropractor last Saturday.

I went to a clinic in San Gabriel, thinking it might be a Chinese chiropractor. Turned out the doctor was still an English speaking doctor. He first told me to stand straight and he observed my posture from the side. He immediately noticed my neck was protruding and my arms slightly curved in, a very typical posture problem for people who sit in front of computer all day long. He also noticed one of my legs is shorter than the other.

To proceed with the adjustment, he began by folding my arms in front of my chest and pushed me against the wall. I heard my spine cracked loudly, which made me screamed out loud. Then he had me lie down on my side and twist my upper and lower body around. I could only hear each joint on my spine cracked one by one….ouch. Just when I was still recovering from the shock, he quickly twist my neck left and right. Ouch, ouch, double ouch……

After the adjustment, I did feel my neck loosen up a lot and I could actually turn my neck around without any pain. According to him, my legs are at equal length too. He taught me a couple exercises that I could practice at home to adjust my posture. He said the most important thing is to watch my posture, eat healthy diet and exercise regularly. Spinal problem could cause circulatory problems and heart disease, as well as arthritis. So I really need to make sure I have a healthy body and correct posture.

Two days after the adjustment, I still feel very tense on my back. I think it’s because I really couldn’t relax my back muscle. So I thought I should go get a massage to help me relax my muscle.

I went to an American massage place and asked for Swedish massage, thinking it might be very comfortable. God knows, my masseuse is a Thai lady who has incredible strength. She gave me the most painful massage ever.

She used her elbow and knuckles trying to smooth out the knots on my back. She even used her feet to step on my back. I was already screaming out in pain, she still wouldn’t let go. During the whole time, she kept on telling me, “Oh, I like help people, you know. Your back is very hard. I need to push down the muscle.” She even dared to tell me, “Oh because you’re first time, I only used medium force.” Medium force!!?? I don’t know anyone who could stand her massage if she was using her full force. WTH! I paid my money so I can get a nice relaxing Swedish massage, not being tortured by you!

When I was paying at the front desk, I told the girl there that was the most painful massage ever. She looked at me sympathetically and said, “Yeah. She can make a big guy cry.” Urgghhh……next time I better avoid her.

Man oh man, now I feel like I have bruises all over my body and my back pain got even worse than before. Why am I doing this to myself? I felt like I wasted $45 to receive this kind of torture…..aiyaya….

Sick

ahh….ever since I got back, I’ve been feeling very sick. For the first couple of days, I was struggling with nausea, dizziness and vomiting. At first, everyone all thought I was pregnant. I’m not pregnant!

I think I caught the stomach flu that’s been going around. After staying in bed for 2 days and taking some days off from work, I was finally getting a little better. But then I’ve been having this weird headache all day long. I feel like my head is about to explode anytime. It just feels so heavy and so much pressure inside. I could feel sharp pain in various parts of my head. This is really bothering me because I couldn’t concentrate at work. Plus I’m not completely over my jet lag, which made things worse.

I gotta get better soon since school is starting this week. Can someone please tell me how to cure headache?

Sore Sore

I guess the side effects of working at a desk job are your body aches and eyes blur after sitting in front of computer all day long.

After staring at the monitor for 8 plus hour each day, my eyes easily get tired and my vision becomes blurry from time to time. I just recently got my eyes examined. Even though my prescription didn’t change much, the doctor told me my eye muscles have been strained too much.

The doctor flashed  a series of picture cards in front my eyes and asked me if I can see any differences. After only 4 cards, I started to see blurry pictures. He explained that normal people can only tell the differences in 12 cards, while my eye muscles could not reflex quick enough to adjust to each changing picture. He suggested that I look away from the monitor and  look outside the window every 15 to 20 minutes. I guess I better follow his order. I don’t want to lose my eye sights at such young age.

Another thing that keeps on bothering me is my entire left side, from the shoulder to hip bone, aches for no particular reason. I think it’s because I tend to lean on my left side while standing and sitting. Now I tried to lean on my right side to adjust the balance. But my hip bone still gets very sore from time to time. It’s probably time to visit a chiropractor.

I don’t get sick very often. But these little problems kept on bothering me. Why do I feel like I have a body of a 50-year-old but the mental age of a 20-year-old?

Getting Forgetful

I’m really getting more forgetful these days. Last Monday I forgot to attend our annual staff breakfast. Last Saturday I forgot about my roommate’s boyfriend’s birthday dinner. When I’m chatting online, if I close the window accidentally, I would forgot what conversation we were having 5 minutes ago. What is wrong with me? I used to have very good memories. I used to  remember things that happened 5 years ago and remembered every little details of things I need to do. Now whenever there are somethings I need to accomplish, I have to write them down on post-its, put them on my desk and constantly remind myself. Still I occasionally would forget about them.  Maybe sitting in front of computer 12 hours a day isn’t too helpful to my brains….

Yoga

**Ouch**….sore…pain….

I’ve been practicing yoga with my roommate for about 3 weeks now. She found this little yoga classroom close to where we live and suggested we go for a try. I figured since I haven’t done any regular exercise in a long time, maybe yoga can help me tone my muscle and give myself more energy.

We first went to a 3-hour introductory workshop, where the instructor taught us all kinds of yoga positions. Then we began to attend the beginner’s class every Wednesday night for 1 1/2 hour. Each class costs $15, but there are also some discount prices where you can pay a lump sum at a time.

During class, we learned how to do the yoga “Oujia” breath, which is to breath through the back of your throat and make a hissing sound. The purpose of this breathing technique is to help you concentrate on your breath more and be able to lengthen your breath as you practice more.  All of yoga’s movement depends on breathing. You do each movement while you inhale and exhale. According to the instructor, you will feel the difference in your body once you blend in the breathing with your body.

To be frankly, I was very confused at the beginning. Whenever the instructor asked us to close our eyes, trying to search our inner power and consider the purpose of why we’re doing yoga, all I could think about was my pain and soreness in my body. My mind couldn’t concentrate and always seem to be wandering off. Some of the yoga position they taught us are very difficult to do as well. For example, we were told to stand on one leg and lift up the other leg for several minutes. Sometimes the instructor would ask us to push ourselves to the limit and extend our legs as tall as possible. It sounds simple to do, but in reality, our legs began to shake only after few seconds and we couldn’t stand still at all.

After each workout, I always feel sore and pain in my backs and legs. But I guess it’s because I haven’t exercise in awhile and I have very weak muscle. “No Pain No Gain!” Hopefully after months of yoga, I would feel some differences in my body and be a total refreshed energetic person!
